fg microtec Performs Interoperability (IOP) Tests for its Standard Push to Talk Over Cellular (PoC) Client Solution (fgPOC)
by Participating in the OMA Test Fest Event No. 9 in Helsinki
Munich, Germany - 20th June 2005
Together with other major industry players, fg microtec participated last week in the latest Open
Mobile Alliance's (OMA) Test Fest event, where for the first time the OMA Push to Talk over Cellular (PoC) enabler has been tested.
After the recent publication in March of the first industry consolidated and open standard for Push to Talk over Cellular (PoC Enabler
Release v1.0) by the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA), a group of leading providers of wireless solutions have conducted the first
Interoperability (IOP) tests for this new enabler between the 16th and 20th of May in Helsinki (Finland).
fg microtec's Push to Talk over Cellular (PoC) client solution fgPOC has been successfully tested against different vendor's PoC
products in order to ensure fast deployment and wide market introduction of the leading technology standard providing instant voice
walkie-talkie communication over wireless packet networks defined by the Open Mobile Alliance.
As an active OMA member and according to fg microtec's commitment to support open standards and implementation of fully interoperable
products, fg microtec has closely monitored the standardization work of PoC at OMA. Based on its extensive embedded systems know-how
and cutting edge Voice over IP (VoIP) technology, fg microtec was able to produce a stable and compelling OMA Push to Talk over
Cellular (PoC) application in record time, resulting in the successful participation last week in the first PoC IOP testing event.
Push to Talk over Cellular (PoC) is a communication service offering real-time half duplex voice communication, in a walkie-talkie
style, where users can instantly contact individuals or groups of people by the simple "push" of a button on their cellular terminal.
By the combination with Presence functions, the user can define buddy lists and groups, see who is on-line at any time and establish
the communication anywhere he is located. Private users and corporate organizations can benefit now from a sophisticated service,
widely available and interoperable over cellular networks, evolved from the old PMR (Private Mobile Radio) service and finally
consolidated among different proprietary existing solutions.
Robert Mirbaha, founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of fg microtec indicated: "We expect that this achievement will boost the
deployment of PoC solutions based on the Open Mobile Alliance standard and their commercial launch by operators already during this year.
fg microtec will strengthen its close cooperation with OMA in order to best serve fg's customers by providing open, interoperable
and high quality products".
