Munich, Germany - setcom and fg microtec jointly release OMA-PoC reference test tool
Munich, Germany - 8th May 2006
The Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) selects setcom and fg microtec as suppliers of an OMAPoC
test tool for TestFest entry criteria
setcom wireless products and fg microtec have been selected by the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) to
supply an OMA-PoC test tool to be used as entry criteria verification during interoperability TestFest
events. Both companies have developed a partnership to promote and strengthen the global
deployment of OMA based Push-to-Talk over Cellular (PoC) solutions within the market. This
partnership will facilitate rapid development of PoC interoperability and testing equipment that, in
turn, will provide customers with the latest standards and testing specifications.
Adoption of standard based products and multivendor interoperability is, generally, a must for mobile
operators. In order to reach a high level of penetration for multimedia services, operators want to make
certain compatibility between different terminals and servers to ensure they provide a high quality product to
end-users and a rapid uptake of these new services. To achieve these goals, setcom and fg microtec are
collaborating very closely in the development of setcom's S-CAT product family of conformance and research
and development testing equipment and fg microtec's fgPoC embedded client application and fgTest
reference test tool. This joint effort on the part of both companies has been extended to include the full
support of GCF (Global Certification Forum) test cases.
The S-CAT OMA-PoC is an entry-level test solution of the S-CAT family. This test tool has been developed
according to OMA specifications for PoC TestFests and is derived from the industry leading AE test platform -
the setcom S-CAT 5020. The S-CAT OMA-PoC seamlessly integrates with the device under test via TCP/IP
protocol over the standard LAN. This test tool can be operated remotely using a graphical user interface
(GUI), maximizing engineers' productivity.
fgTest is a reference test tool for Push to Talk over Cellular (PoC) conformance and interoperability testing. It
is compliant to the OMA standards and it is based on fg microtec's fgPoC embedded client for mobile
handsets. fgTest can be used by PoC server vendors and service providers to execute OMA test cases and
analyze its results very efficiently. The tool can be accessed remotely and managed very easily over a Web
interface.
"We believe our partnership with setcom will accelerate the introduction of GCF certified PoC terminals in the
market and it will help mobile operators to gain confidence in the OMA standard for service deployment", said
Robert Mirbaha, co-founder and CEO of fg microtec.
"At setcom we recognise the industry's need for comprehensive testing of the PoC application to ensure its
future success. We have, therefore, teamed up with fg microtec to provide OMA and its members with a firstclass
test solution providing comprehensive coverage for both clients and servers", said Peter Lund,
President Worldwide Sales at setcom.
